FC Bayern München: known simply as Bayern München or Bayern, is a German sports club based in Munich, the capital of Bavaria, best known as a professional soccer team that competes in the German Football League A. As of March 2018, it has won 27 German soccer top division titles (1968-69 season; 1971 -72 season; 1972-73 season; 1973-74 season; 1979-80 season; 1980-81 season; 1984-85 season; 1985-86; 1986-87; 1988-89; 1989-90; 1993-94; 1996-97; 1998-99; 1998-99; 1998-99; 1999-99 06 season; 2007-08 season; 2009-10 season; 2012-13 season; 2013-14 season; 2014-15 season; 2015-16 season; 2016-17 season) and 17 German Cup championships, making it the most successful German soccer club in Germany.
Bayern Munich was first founded in 1900 by Franz Johan, who led a group of 11 soccer players. Despite having won the first ever German league title in 1932, the club was not a founding member of the German soccer first division when it was founded in 1963. Its strongest period was in the mid-1970s, when it won three consecutive European Champions Cups (1974-1976) under Franz Beckenbauer. Overall, Bayern Munich has reached the final of the UEFA Champions League on 10 occasions, most recently in 2013, and claimed the fifth trophy in the club's history[2]. Bayern Munich has also won one European Union Cup, one European Cup Winners' Cup, one European Super Cup and three Intercontinental Cup/Toyota Cup/Club World Cups.
