Transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano revealed in a recent interview with GIVEMESPORT that free agent Marcos Alonso has expressed a strong interest in joining Manchester United. Alonso is currently looking for a new club after ending his contract with Barcelona and Manchester United have emerged as a potential option for him.
Romano noted that Alonso has been recommended to Manchester United in recent weeks, and that he is personally inclined to join the Premier League giants. However, as of now, no substantial news or progress has been made between the two sides, with the transfer still in the preliminary stages of discussion.
Manchester United are currently facing injury problems at the left back position, which undoubtedly exacerbates their need for new recruits. Alonso, an experienced defender who has played for Chelsea for many years and represented the Blues in 212 matches, will undoubtedly be able to strengthen United's backline.
However, Romano also mentioned that United need to think carefully when deciding which player to sign to fill the left-back vacancy. Apart from budgetary constraints, they need to prioritize the reinforcement of the midfield position. United have made it clear that bringing in a new midfielder is their top priority, which will directly affect their strategy in the transfer market.
