Tippeligaen, the Football Superliga, is the top tier of domestic soccer in Norway. The Norwegian domestic league dates back to 1937, while the Norwegian Premier League was promoted to the Superliga in 1991.Starting with the 2017 season, the Norwegian Football Association (NFB) changed the name of the league to Eliteserien and launched a new theme for the tournament.
The Norwegian Premier League has 16 teams in a double round-robin system of home and away matches. Each team will play home and away matches against each of the other 15 teams, totaling 30 rounds of matches. In the Norwegian Premier League, the winner of each match receives three points, the loser receives no points, and a draw results in one point for each team. In the end, the teams are ranked by the number of points they have, or in the case of a tie, by goals scored or conceded.
