Women's World Cup
There is the successful defense of the title
sports team (basketball, soccer, football etc)
. That would be the German women's soccer team and the U.S. women's soccer team.
The German women's soccer team is coming off back-to-back wins at the 2003 Women's World Cup in the United States and the 2007 Women's World Cup in China. The U.S. women's soccer team won back-to-back titles at the 2015 Women's World Cup in Canada and the 2019 Women's World Cup in France. The Women's World Cup is the highest level of women's soccer in the world organized by FIFA and has been held every four years since 1991. The successful defenses of the German women's soccer team and the U.S. women's soccer team in the eight short editions of the tournament also proved that the level of women's soccer in the world is not balanced.
Unlike the men's World Cup, in the history of the Women's World Cup, the number and quality of teams participating in the Women's World Cup has always been far less than that of the men's World Cup, thus making it easy to produce oligopolistic teams. The two teams that have successfully defended their titles, the German women's soccer team and the U.S. women's soccer team, have basically been able to enter the knockout stage of the Women's World Cup. The U.S. Women's Soccer team has made it to the final 3 in every Women's World Cup, winning 4 of them, 1 runner-up and 3 third-place finishes.
It is worth mentioning that in the 2011 Women's World Cup in Germany, the Japanese women's soccer team, a strong team from Asia, beat the U.S. women's soccer team in the final through penalty kicks, and took the Women's World Cup title in history. If not for the carelessness, the U.S. women's soccer team was afraid that they had already achieved the greatness of the Women's World Cup for 3 consecutive championships. Similarly, the German women's soccer team, after winning 2 consecutive World Cups, failed to make it to the final 4 in the 2011 Women's World Cup at home, which was a real shocker.
The 2023 Women's World Cup will be held in Australia and New Zealand, and with the strength of the U.S. women's soccer team, they are still very hopeful that they will be able to successfully defend their title once again, thus realizing the greatness of 3 consecutive championships, so let's wait and see.
