Brazilian star Anthony Maffeos was accused of abusing his ex-girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, and with the new evidence presented by the victim, the Brazilian and English police have launched an investigation, and the Brazilian Football Association has also issued a statement announcing that Anthony will be removed from the national team.
Cavallin, who works as a model and DJ, filed a complaint with Sao Paulo police in June this year against Anthony for four counts of domestic violence, bodily injury and intimidation. No comment at this time."
In an interview with Brazilian media outlet UOL on Monday, Cavallin revealed new evidence such as whatsapp conversations and photos, including a message from Anthony: "I'm done with you, I want you dead! The photos show Cavallin's reported injuries after the abuse, including a photo of a cut on his finger, which was so deep that it was visible on the bone, which was quite horrifying.
Anthony was originally selected for the new Brazilian national team, but after the police investigation, they immediately decided to kick him out, the Brazilian FA statement said: "In order to protect the suspected victim, the player, the Brazilian national team and the FA, we have decided to remove Anthony from the national team." Brazil also announced the selection of Arsenal striker Gabriel Jenksis to replace him.
