Following the 1-2 defeat away to Brighton in the 2nd round of the Premier League, Manchester United manager Jens Ten Hagar was interviewed on Match of the Day, giving insight into the key events of the game, his team's performance and the transfer window.
Regarding the goal that was disallowed for offside by Zielkiser, Ten Hag said, "That goal could have won us the game if it had been counted. Joshua was skating at that moment and he may not have been able to fully read the situation, but it's hard to avoid the ball in that situation. Despite that, we created more chances to score the second goal, showed resilience and fought back. However, it is very disappointing indeed when we lose instead of winning."
Speaking about the last minute goals conceded, Ten Hag emphasized, "The two goals conceded were completely avoidable. We lacked efficiency in both boxes and as a team we need to perform better. It's unfortunate that we didn't get any points here, but we have to pick ourselves up and give it our all for the big games ahead."
Regarding the transfer window, Ten Hag said, "When we have definite news, we will announce it in the name of the club. We are always looking for better players to strengthen the squad, but we have to find the right options. So far, we are happy with our current squad and will take it to the league."
On United's performances in the opening two games, Ten Hagar opined, "We have good potential, but we have to hold on until the end. Conceding a goal in extra time was unacceptable for us and when the referee blew the final whistle the game was over. That's where we need to improve, we need to control the game better and make sure we can stay focused and consistent at key moments."
