According to major media reports in the UK, Westham have decided to give up on the acquisition of Manchester United stalwart Harry Muguni, and it is reported that the 30-year-old England international has been in disagreement with the Red Devils over the issue of compensation, preferring to stay in the team for 2 more years until the end of his contract, rather than take a pay cut to leave the team.

Manchester United had accepted a £30 million (HK$300 million) transfer fee from Westham to sell Harry Magouni to the London side. However, if Magouni joins Westham, his current salary of £190,000 per week will be reduced to £120,000 per week. Manchester United were willing to pay Magouni £6 million in compensation to facilitate the deal, but Magouni demanded £15 million in compensation, leading to the breakdown of the negotiations, and Westham did not want to delay any longer, and are ready to look for other central candidates.
