Chelsea announced on Thursday (10th) that England international Rex Champion will become captain of the team in the new season, taking over from the departing Espanyol. At just 23 years of age, the appointment makes him the youngest Chelsea captain in nearly half a century since Kenny Weiss (18) in 1975.
After the departure of Espigoda, who has been Chelsea's captain for the past 4 years, and the departure of veterans such as Zorzino, Nicolo Gendi and Giovazzi, Chelsea's only "30+" Tiago Schwarz, who was originally regarded as the hottest candidate to become the new captain, announced that Jimenez had "run out" of the team on Thursday.
