Soccer journalist Guillem Balague has recently published a new book about the departure of Meis from Barcelona, the contents of which have been recognized by the Meis team, in which it was revealed that Meis had in fact agreed to take a pay cut of up to 75%, but was ultimately overruled by Barcelona president Laporta's decision to renew his contract.

Back in August 2021, Mez's contract had expired, and his negotiations with Laporta for a contract extension had been going well. Mez was even willing to take a 75% pay cut for the first year of his new deal, and a 50% pay cut for the entire contract period, but it turned out that Laporta overruled him just before the upcoming contract extension.

As for the other requests made to Barcelona, as previously mentioned by El Mundo, they included arranging separate boxes for Mez and Suarez at the LU Camp Stadium, but the most important one was Mez's request for Barcelona to set up a team with the ability to compete in the bidding, which Laporta ultimately did not accede to as Barcelona's financial difficulties were so severe that new players such as Agulhão could not be registered at one time.
