At the age of 10, Vinicius officially signed with the Flamengo youth academy, and three years later, Vinicius began representing Flamengo U-15 in various tournaments.

Signed Vinicius, then 17, from Flamengo for a transfer fee of €45 million and officially joined Real Madrid a year later.

Vinicius himself was fair in criticizing La Liga's acquiescence to racial discrimination by fans, and called for tougher measures to combat racism[9]. Subsequently, Real Madrid issued an official statement condemning the racial abuse of Vinicius as a direct attack on Spain's model of democratic cohesion; it said it had notified the Spanish Attorney General of the incident as a "hate crime" and reserved the right to prosecute the case on its own [10]. The incident also alarmed FIFA to the extent that it set up an ad hoc committee to deal with racial discrimination against players, headed by its president, Gianni Infantino.
