Legendary English soccer scorer Alan Shearer gives insight into a number of hot topics in the Premier League in his latest column, with praise for Manchester City striker Harland standing out, as well as insight into Arsenal's title prospects, Newcastle United's quest for the top four, and the performances of a number of players and coaches.
Harland: the best striker in the world today
Shearer doesn't mince words about Harland, who he believes is the best striker in the world at the moment. "Look at the number of goals he's scored, playing in the toughest league in the world and he still makes scoring look so easy." Shearer singled out Harland's shooting skills and enjoyment of the game, "His shooting is top class and you can see he really enjoys the game. That kind of form and belief makes Harland a goal machine like no other."
Arsenal: title favorites
Despite City having a superb striker like Harland, Shearer still insists Arsenal will win the Premier League title this season. "It's true that City will be hard to beat if Harland stays fit, but after three rounds of matches, I still predict Arsenal to win the title." Shearer pointed to Arsenal's consistency and team spirit as the key to their lead.
Newcastle: Luck needed for fourth place
Shearer is cautiously optimistic about Newcastle United's prospects for a fourth-place finish. "Newcastle have had a good start to the season, but they still have a lot of room for improvement." According to Shearer, Newcastle have shown unity and a desire to win, but lack sufficient reinforcement support, which could limit their performance in the league. "If Newcastle can bring in one or two more players and get lucky, they have a chance of finishing in the top four."
Rodriguez: Ballon d'Or is well deserved
On the subject of the Ballon d'Or, Shearer is firmly on the side of Manchester City midfielder Rodri. "There is only one winner of this year's Ballon d'Or and that is Rodri." Shearer believes that Rodri's outstanding performances for City and the Spanish national team are enough to win the award. "Even though Real Madrid have great players like Vinicius and Bellingham, there is no substitute for Rodri's contribution and influence."
