After the UEFA Nations League match between Spain and Serbia, Spain goalkeeper David Raya spoke to Teledeporte and gave his thoughts on the refereeing decisions and his team's performance during the match.
Commenting on the draw result of the match, David Raya said that it was not a satisfactory ending. He specifically mentioned the second half, where the Spanish team changed their approach to the game and created many chances, but unfortunately failed to convert them into goals. Despite the team's disappointment at not being able to take all three points, Davy Raya also admitted that the Serbian team was very resilient at home, and that their defense created a lot of problems for the Spanish team.
Speaking about the possible penalty controversy, David Raya expressed his doubts about the referee's decision. He made it clear that during the match he witnessed a Serbian player tugging on Spanish striker Joselu in the penalty area, and that this action was particularly noticeable in the fight for a high ball. David Raya believes that the referee should have seen the foul more clearly and given a penalty. However, the referee did not make such a decision, which left the Spanish team somewhat disappointed and unhappy.
Despite his misgivings about the referee's call, David Raya did not put the blame squarely on the referee. He emphasized that the team had their chances to win the game, but just didn't take advantage of them. At the same time, he also recognized his team's performance in the defensive end, especially when facing Serbian striker Jovic's one-touch goal, he showed excellent composure and concentration. David Raya said that he was keeping as calm as possible and insisted on making the save until the last moment. He believed that his judgment was correct as Jovic might have mistakenly thought that there was a teammate behind him to support him and hurriedly took the kick, thus missing the good chance to break the goal.
