Arsenal beat FC Zurich 2-1 in Group A of the UEFA Europa League in the early hours of Friday morning (9). 19-year-old Brazilian youngster Marquinhos, who joined the team this summer, made his debut in the match with an outstanding performance, scoring one goal and adding one assist to become the biggest contributor to the team's victory.
Arsenal took away a number of regular starters for the match, and Marquinhos, who joined from Sao Paulo, made his debut. The Arsenal took control of the game in the 16th minute, when Fabio Vera sent a straight line from the back of the field, and Nikidio's cross was given to Marquinhos for a powerful shot that found its way into the net, and FC Zurich tied the game just before halftime, with Kiersio scoring in the 12-yard penalty corner. Arsenal eventually won 2-1.
Marquinhos, whose transfer fee was just £3 million, has made history as the first Arsenal player to score on his European debut in nearly 41 years, with the last one coming in 1981, when the young product of Meadi was in Europe.
