When will the Universiade be held?
How many years does the Universiade take place?
Universiade is the abbreviation of National University Games. The National University Games is jointly organized by the Ministry of Education, the State General Administration of Sport and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, and is hosted by different provincial and municipal people's governments, and is the highest level of events for college students in China. The Universiade is held once every four years, and has always been adhering to the tenet of "unity, progress, civilization, and education", and adhering to the principle of people-oriented educational characteristics.
According to the regulations of the event, the competitions of the Universiade are held separately according to Group A composed of participating general colleges and universities and Group B composed of schools and sports institutes where high-level sports teams are located, in pursuit of fairness and impartiality. Since the first NCAA held in Beijing in 1982, nine NCAA Games have been held.The 13th Student Games of the People's Republic of China held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, in 2017 merged the Universiade with the Secondary School Games, ushering in a new era for the Universiade.
The NCAA is a comprehensive sports event co-sponsored by the State Education Commission, the State Sports Commission and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, and co-organized by the China University Sports Association. The following is information about the previous NCAA Games:
1st:
Time: August 10-19, 1982
Venue
Participation: 2,255 athletes from 29 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions took part in the competition, which was divided into three groups: Physical Education Institute for Group A, Physical Education Departments (Sections) of Higher Teachers' Institutions (including Comprehensive Universities) for Group B, and General Higher Educational Institutes for Group C.
Programs: There are 4 programs: Athletics, Competitive Gymnastics, Artistic Gymnastics and Table Tennis.
Achievements: 2 athletes reached the national level, 106 reached the first level and 1,049 reached the second level. The conference also selected "five words, four beauties" model sports teams and model athletes.
2nd session:
Time: August 3-9, 1986
Location: Dalian
Participation: 2,228 athletes from 29 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions participated.
Competitions: track and field, basketball.
Achievements: A total of 417 persons and 71 teams broke 85 records of the previous Universiade, and 3 athletes reached the standard of national sportsmen. The Congress also selected "Spiritual Civilization" delegations, teams, athletes and referees.
3rd session:
Time: August 25-31, 1988
Location: Nanjing
Participation: 3,100 athletes from 30 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions participated.
Competitions: Athletics, Basketball, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Artistic Gymnastics.
Result: 664 rewrites of 90 Universiade records.
4th session:
Time: September 29 to October 5, 1992
Location: Wuhan
Highlights: The information remote network system and the information barcode query system were launched for the first time; in the men's 10,000-meter racewalking competition, Shaanxi athlete Tan Mingjun broke the national record.
5th session:
Duration: August 28 to September 4, 1996
Location: Xi'an
Highlights: For the first time, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan were invited to send teams to compete and observe, and the torch was also lit for the first time.
6th session:
Time: September 3-11, 2000
Location: Chengdu
Participation: Nearly 3,000 athletes participated.
Outcome: Creation of a large body of excellence at the national level.
7th session:
Duration: August 26 to September 6, 2004
Location: Shanghai
Highlights: Swimming and track and field competitions are wildly breaking Universiade records, and orienteering is new to this year's Universiade.
8th session:
Time: July 16-26, 2007
Location: Guangzhou
Activities: During the Universiade, the "Sports Science Paper Presentation" was organized, and activities such as the "Principal's Cup" selection and the "Sportsmanship Award" selection were carried out.
9th session:
Time: September 8-18, 2012
Location: Tianjin
Participation: 6,196 athletes and coaches and 1,196 referees participated.
Events: 12 events including track and field, swimming, orienteering and cross-country, and taekwondo.
Originally scheduled to be held in 2016, the 10th National University Games was merged with the Secondary School Games to form the National Student Games, the first of which was held in September 2017 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, in accordance with relevant national policies.
Stages like the Universiade are vital in giving college students across the country a chance to showcase themselves and network with their peers across the country.
