In a recent exclusive interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, soccer great Roberto opened up and shared his complex emotions about leaving FC Barcelona, as well as his anticipation and determination to join his new Serie A home, FC Como.
Farewell to Barcelona: an unparalleled journey
During the 18 years he played for Barcelona, Roberto's career was deeply imprinted with the red and blue colors. Talking about the day he left, he was overwhelmed with emotion: "Leaving Barcelona was like saying goodbye to a journey that had been part of my life. On that day, every moment of my career flashed through my mind, the laughter, sweat and glory are all precious memories." Roberto's gratitude to Barcelona is overwhelming: "My Barcelona career has been unparalleled, and it has allowed me to realize all of my dreams as a player - winning championships, playing alongside some of the best players in the world, and even wearing the Barcelona captain's armband. All of this has been the most glittering chapter of my career."
Joining Como: Creating New Brilliance with Cesc Fabregas
Roberto is full of expectations and confidence for his upcoming Como career. He made a special mention of his new manager Cesc Fabregas: "I am incredibly honored to have Cesc Fabregas as my coach. He has been one of the best players in the world, with excellent soccer intelligence and a wealth of experience in the game. I'm excited to start this new adventure with him, and I'm sure we'll make a difference together. At the same time, Cesc Fabregas is also at the beginning of his coaching career and I believe we can learn from each other, help each other and grow together in many ways."
Relegation Goal: Unite to Overcome the Tough Times
Facing Como's relegation task this season, Roberto showed his commitment and determination as a veteran: "All outstanding players dream of competing for the European or domestic league title, but the reality is that our team's primary goal this season is to be relegated. This requires us to be united as a team and use our experience and strength to help each and every one of our teammates. I believe that as long as we work together, there is no difficulty that we cannot overcome. As a team, we are confident and capable of achieving our goal of relegation, and I am confident that we will be able to stay on the Serie A stage."
Roberto's words not only express his nostalgia and gratitude for the past years, but also show his firm belief and determination for the future challenges. In the new journey of Como, he will contribute to the team with more enthusiasm and more professional attitude, writing a new chapter of his own.
