Started his professional career with Willem II back in 2015. made his Dutch debut on May 10, 2015 in a match between Willem II and ADO The Hague.
De Jong joined Ajax in the summer of 2015 and was briefly loaned back to Willem II for half a season.He returned to Ajax in 2016.In the 2018/19 season, De Jong became a mainstay of Ajax, winning the Dutch Eredivisie title and the Dutch Cup with the team and reaching the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. In the second round of the UEFA Champions League Cup one-eighth final, an excellent performance saw him hold off Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric to beat Real Madrid 1-4 away. At the end of the season, De Jong won the Dutch Football Rookie of the Year Award (Cruyff Award).
On January 24, 2019, La Liga club Barcelona announced the signing of Frenkie de Jong for €75 million plus a €11 million floating clause, becoming the 20th Dutchman to play for Barcelona. The transfer became official on July 1, 2019, while De Jong will continue to play for Ajax for the rest of the season.
De Jong's main position is at the back, but he can also play at the front, center forward and center back. He has excellent ball control, long and short passes with good dispatching ability and positional sense.
