Uruguayan international Luis Suarez, who left the club in the summer, has finally joined his parent club, Montevideo Nationals, after a gap of 16 years. However, he has only signed a 3-month contract with the main purpose of maintaining his form for the World Cup, which means that the 35-year old veteran may be transferred again at the end of this year.

After Suarez returned to free agency this summer, it was rumored that Aston Villa and River Plate were interested in signing him, but it didn't work out. The striker announced his return to Montevideo Nationals through social media: First of all, I'd like to thank the fans of the Nationals for their love and care for me and my family in recent days, I'm so touched, I had to make a decision to accept the opportunity to return to the Nationals, I've already reached an agreement with the club, and will soon be finalizing the details of the contract, I'm looking forward to enjoying this new phase, and I hope to see you all again in the future. I look forward to enjoying this new phase and meeting my family in the coming days.

Suarez was born in the youth ranks of Montevideo Nationals, and in 2006 he moved to Dutch side Groningen to start his European career, before returning to his starting point.
