Paulinho, whose full name is José Paulo Bezerra Maciel Júnior, is a Brazilian footballer who plays as a midfielder and is now retired.
Paulinho's playing career began in 2006, when he started at a small club in Brazil but didn't play a single game. He then moved to Eastern Europe, playing for Lithuania and Poland. He then returned to his club of origin.
Transferred to Bragantino in 2009
In 2010, he joined Barclays Premier League powerhouse Corinthians and became a mainstay of the team, winning the Copa Libertadores and Club World Cup in 2012.
On July 6, 2013, Tottenham Hotspur officially announced the signing of the Brazilian player, who had excelled at the Confederations Cup that year, for a transfer fee of £17 million.
On June 29, 2015, Guangzhou Evergrande announced that Paulinho had joined the Chinese Super League giants for a fee of €14 million. He then helped Guangzhou Evergrande win the 2015 AFC Champions League.
In the summer of 2017, Barcelona bought out Paulinho for €40 million in liquidated damages after their constant offers were rejected.On August 14, Guangzhou Evergrande officially announced his departure.
In 2018, Guangzhou Evergrande announced that Paulinho was returning to the team on loan, including an option to buy out at the end of the loan period.
Guangzhou Evergrande bought out Paulinho early in the 2019 winter transfer window on a buyout clause at the end of the loan period.
