Interim manager Chris Casley was interviewed by Independent UK after England beat Finland 2-0 at home in the 2nd round of the UEFA Europa League group stage. He spoke highly of captain Harry Kane's excellent performance and talked about the team's success in making tactical adjustments.
Carsley began by talking about Kane's goal: "Harry did well to score tonight and it was certainly a big moment for him. His kids were there to cheer him on, which made the whole night even more exciting. I'm really happy for Harry, he's always been the soul of the team and tonight's performance proved once again that he fully deserves all the plaudits."
Casley then emphasized Kane's contribution to the England team, "I've noticed this week that Harry is very motivated to play and score goals for England. He's not just a great goalscorer, he's the spiritual leader of the team. We are very lucky to have a winger like that on the pitch. I hope he can maintain this form and continue to contribute goals and leadership to the team."
Speaking about the team's tactical adjustments, Carsley said, "We made some attempts in this game by playing Trent (Alexander-Arnold) and Rico (Lewis) in different positions. You all saw Trent's ability to pass the ball and control the game, which is not surprising as we have witnessed these virtues of his many times in the Liverpool game. Such adjustments allow us to diversify our attack and put more pressure on our opponents."
Finally, Casley talked about how he feels about being the interim head coach, "I'm definitely not quite comfortable in this role yet because I'm out of my comfort zone. However, I am excited to have the opportunity to lead this great team. We have to make sure that we reach a high standard every day because our goal is to win every game. Luckily we've had two good results, but this is just the beginning. We need to build on this and be well prepared for the next matches."
