According to the latest report from renowned Italian journalist Niccolo Scilla, Serie A powerhouse Lazio are still keeping a keen interest in Lyon's rising star in front of goal, Sergei Sergei. The 21-year-old French U23 international has become the target of several clubs' pursuit due to his outstanding performance and potential.
Shelkey's current contract with Lyon expires in June next year, which has put his transfer prospects in the spotlight. He was close to leaving Lyon this summer, but ended up staying with the team after failing to receive a suitable offer. Nonetheless, Lazio's interest in him has not waned and continues to heat up.
According to Scilla, Lazio were rumored to be in talks with Shelkey this summer, and although they were unsuccessful in bringing him in at the time, they have not given up on their pursuit of the young talent. Shelkey himself rejected an offer from Premier League side Fulham during the summer window, showing his cautious attitude towards future transfers and confidence in his own value.
Last season, Sergei performed well for Lyon, making 39 appearances, including 23 starts, contributing 3 goals and 9 assists. Such figures are quite impressive for a young player and further prove his strength and potential. Currently on the German transfer market, Sergei's price tag has reached €25 million, which certainly makes his transfer value even more compelling.
For Lazio, Sergei is undoubtedly a worthy target. His arrival will further enhance the team's attacking strength and inject new energy and creativity into the team. However, as Sergei's contract with Lyon is about to expire, Lazio needs to seize the opportunity in the winter window or next summer's transfer market to complete his introduction as soon as possible.
