Earlier, Van Dijk, 30, spoke to Ferdinand about how he felt mentally after returning from a 10-month absence due to injury last season.

Van Dijk stated, "Right now I feel like I'm at the top of my game, but when I'm just coming back it takes time to get back up to speed and there's no excuse for that."
