Blackburn Rovers are a soccer club based in Blackburn, Lancashire. Founded on November 5, 1875, it was a founding member of the English Football League at its inception in 1888 and 1994-95 Premier League champions. The club has played its home ground at Ewood Park since 1890. The club's motto, "Arte et labore", means "Use skill and labor".
Ewood Park has a full seating capacity of 31,367 spectators and the playing surface measures 115 x 76 meters. The ground is divided into four sections: the Darwin Stand, the CIS Stand (formerly the Riverside Stand, named after sponsor CIS Insurance), the Blackburn Stand and the Jacky Watson Stand (named in honor of Jacky Watson, a local industrialist and lifelong supporter of the team). Rumor has it that Blackburn want to rebuild the CIS Stand to increase its capacity to 35,000.
Blackburn Rovers won the league in 1912 and 1914, but failed to win the top flight again for over eighty years.
Former Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish took over as manager of Blackburn Rovers in 1991, leading the team back to the newly formed Premier League in its first year and winning the Premier League title in 1995. Dalglish was promoted to Director of Football after the title win, and four years later Blackburn Rovers were relegated to League One. Blackburn Rovers finished runners-up in the 2000-01 season and were promoted back to the Premier League, but were relegated again in 2011-12.
