Chelsea boss Abramovic, along with at least two senior members of the Ukrainian delegation, suffered symptoms of suspected poisoning, including red, sore and tearful eyes and peeling skin on his face and hands, after taking part in Russia-Ukraine ceasefire talks in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, earlier this month. A spokesman for Abramovic confirmed on Monday (28) that he was showing symptoms, but declined to say what happened to the other participants or to speculate on the source of the poison.

The Wall Street Journal quoted a source as saying that Abramovic lost his eyesight for a few hours and that his symptoms had improved after treatment in Turkey, and that his life was not in danger. He also said that the victim blamed Russia for the suspected attack.

of hardliners as wanting to sabotage negotiations to end the war.

Western experts investigating the incident said it was difficult to say whether the symptoms were caused by chemical or biological agents or by some kind of electromagnetic radiation attack. Ukrainian President Zelensky, who met with Abramović, did not show symptoms, and a Zelensky spokesman said there was no information on the suspected poisoning.

However, a U.S. official told foreign media on the same day that intelligence highly suggests that the symptoms in question were caused by environmental factors rather than poisoning. Abramovic has recently been involved in peace talks between Russia and Ukraine as a go-between, and Zelensky has suggested to the US that sanctions against Abramovic be suspended in order to advance the negotiations.
