According to renowned Italian journalist Nicolo Scilla, Luis Enrico Spalletti, the successor to Italian national team manager Roberto Mancini, is currently keeping a close eye on Burnley's young winger Alex Colaiuoso. At just 19 years of age, the rising soccer star, who comes from the Spaniard's youth system, has already shown versatility on the pitch, being able to play in the left winger position, as well as in the right winger and second striker roles.
Since his transfer from Espanyol to Burnley last summer, Collaudio has quickly adapted to the fierce competition of the Premier League, making 15 appearances in the Premier League last season, not only collecting his first Premier League goal, but also contributing an assist. With Burnley playing in the Championship this season, Cole O'Shaughnessy has continued his good form, making three starts in the first four rounds of the Championship and scoring again, demonstrating his goal-scoring ability and potential for continued growth.
Scilla further pointed out that Spalletti has spoken highly of Corleosso's outstanding performance and has begun an in-depth examination of him. This positive signal means that it is possible that Corleoschau will receive a call-up to the Italian national team in the near future and officially embark on an international journey. This is undoubtedly a great encouragement and recognition for the young player.
It's worth noting that Colaiuoso also has a wealth of experience at national team level. He has made a total of 10 appearances for Italy's U19, U20 and U21 national youth teams, showing the strength and potential to represent the Blucerchiati. However, Colaiuccio's choice of nationality is also interesting due to the fact that he holds both U.S. and Canadian citizenship. He made four appearances for the U.S. U15s as a teenager and was named to the Canadian National Team roster in September 2022, giving him more options in choosing which country he wants to play for in the future. However, from the signs so far, the Italian national team seems more likely to be his next stop.
