With the departure of former England manager Gareth Southgate, the FA has moved quickly to find the next official manager for the team. According to Telegraph reporter Matt Law, despite interim manager Carsley's encouraging results in the early stages of his tenure, the FA has not stopped there, but continues to make contact with a number of other managers in an effort to fully explore all possible options before making a final decision.
Since taking over as interim manager, Carsley has led the team to successive defeats against Ireland and Finland, showing a remarkable coaching ability and tactical intelligence. His calmness and boldness in handling the controversy surrounding his failure to sing the national anthem has also impressed the EFL leadership. In addition, Carsley's boldness in formation selection and team decision-making has further cemented his position as the favorite to permanently replace Southgate.
However, the FA are not pinning their hopes entirely on Casley alone. It has been revealed that they have spoken to a number of managers, including Eddie Howe, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard, but the specific details and identities of the candidates have not yet been released to the public. Meanwhile, while Pep Guardiola is seen as the FA's dream candidate, that option seems unrealistic given his current contract and coaching situation at Manchester City. Klopp, on the other hand, has made it clear that he will not be involved in the bid, while Mauricio Pochettino has been snapped up by the USMNT for a signing.
In the face of so much uncertainty, Casley remains highly focused and confident. He has been given a six-match temporary spell in charge by the FA and his next task will be to lead the team to continued success against Greece and Finland in October and to secure a better position for the team in the UEFA Europa League competition in November. In the meantime, the FA will also continue to move forward with their appointment process with a view to identifying Southgate's permanent successor before the start of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Both Casley and the other candidates will face a tough competition and test.
