In the first 15 minutes of the game, the Lil' Birds played an even game, keeping possession of the ball and finding space behind TAA and Robertson in front of the net. As the game progressed

The offense's firepower dropped off dramatically. At the start of the second half, after a Mac Allister goal, Maupay's cross to the open Trossard went wide, and the long overdue goal was the closest they came to scoring in the whole match.

Liverpool (England)

It took some time to get into the swing of things, but after they got out of the Seagulls' rhythm there was no turning back; Diaz, Salah, and Mane up front played an important role on the counter-attacks, and the stacking of TAA with the occasional Henderson on the right further increased the threat on the wing during the positional play. Matip's long, high cross found Diaz on the offside line for a header to take the lead, while Keita picked up the ball on the edge of the box, touched it to Bissouma's arm and blew for a penalty, which Salah scored to widen the gap.

The Rawhide game had the muck and mire of a game. Binford had only themselves to blame for their inability to push forward effectively, with a number of misplaced passes giving away possession for no apparent reason. The closest they came to scoring was when a Canos cross from the left wing found Mbuemo at the far post and was narrowly cleared by Tarkowski. Burnley, on the other hand, were limited by the Bees' defense and were unable to dominate the ground game, and were relatively more threatening in their attacking style, which was the familiar long-pass pattern, with a Westwood cross that found McNeil's header deflected over the bar being their best attacking move.

There was a small period of high spirits for Burnley in the second half, with Cornet taking advantage of an opponent's misplaced back-pass and having a one-two pounced on by Raya; and another time Rodriguez's superb long-range effort hit the crossbar. At the other end, Binford's passing quality returned to a steady state and gradually took control of the game, but were slow to find a breakthrough up front.

In the final period of the game, Brentford needed to break through the deadlock and lacked a passer who could accurately find his teammates in the box. Eriksen came up with a first time cross and found Toney at the far post to head in the goal to take the lead, and in stoppage time, Toney broke through the defense and was fouled by Collins who was given a red card and a penalty kick, which Toney took himself and scored the winning goal. Binford scored twice in the closing stages of the game to secure the win.
