Chelsea owner Abramovich has been actively selling, and has received at least three offers, and it is rumored that British real estate tycoon Nick Candy has also joined the fray, intending to buy the London club for 2.5 billion pounds (HK$25.7 billion), and it is reported that Candy is even a Chelsea loyalist! However, the latest news is that Abu has been sanctioned by the British government and his assets have been frozen, making the sale doubtful.
According to the Daily Mail, 49-year-old British businessman Rick Jandy is planning to buy Chelsea from Abramovich for 2.5 billion pounds by the end of the week, with 1.5 billion of that money reportedly going to rebuild the Stamford Bridge stadium. Spokeswoman and Australian actress Holly Valance revealed that Rick is actually a Chelsea fan: Jandy has a long history with Chelsea, as his father was once asked to join the team and he has been a Chelsea fan since he was four years old.
There is a difference of 500 million pounds between Jandy's offer and Abu's bid, and it is reported that Jandy intends to recruit American investors to form a consortium. However, whether Abu can successfully sell the club is still uncertain, as Abu is ranked No.2 in the recently announced UK economic sanctions list, and his assets have been frozen and cannot be utilized.
