In a recent interview with talkSPORT, former Arsenal goalkeeper Ramsdale spoke publicly for the first time about his decision to leave Arsenal and gave his thoughts on former manager Mikel Arteta as well as current goalkeeper David Raya.
Ramsdale said that as a professional player, he knows that the coach's decision is final, and that while he did his best to get back into form, Davy Raya's stellar performances last season made it impossible for him to shake the starting goalkeeper's position. "I've been in professional soccer for a long time now and I always remain respectful of the coach's decisions." Ramsdale said, "I did my best to try and get my form back, but Davy Raya was really good last season and he deserves that spot."
Facing the decision to leave the team, Ramsdale said that while the process was tough, he has found a new home and is looking forward to stepping on the field again. "It's been tough, but that's the way soccer is, full of variables and challenges." He continued, "I've found a new team, a new environment and I'm looking forward to proving myself again there and restarting my career. I just need to take on the new challenge in the way I see fit."
Ramsdale has spoken highly of former manager Arteta. He revealed that he spoke to Arteta last week and expressed his gratitude for Arteta's support and help during his time with Arsenal. "Everything Arteta has done for me during my time at Arsenal has been great." Ramsdale said, "He thanked me for my contribution to Arsenal's return to the Champions League, which made me feel very honored. We still communicate with each other and maintain a good relationship. In a couple of weeks there will be a game between our two teams and it will be an enjoyable reunion."
