Ajax Director of Football, Owamas, has issued a statement revealing an apology and resigned from his position over the inappropriate message he sent to his female partner.

Sources said the incident was uncovered by a Dutch media report that Ovomas was not a first-time offender but had been sending inappropriate messages to his female partner for a long time, and that the Ajax senior management had intervened in the investigation and thought that Ovomas's resignation was the only option.

The 48-year-old Ovomas made a mistake this time, the statement did not disclose the content of the message, but he reflected on his own behavior, thought it was unacceptable: I am ashamed of the incident, I did not realize that I had exceeded the boundaries, and when I realized it, I felt a great deal of pressure, and I apologize for this and take the blame for the resignation of my position.

Ajax's CEO Wendy Sanders, who has worked with Ovomas for 30 years, said she was shocked by the revelation but agreed with the club's approach: "My character has a responsibility to safeguard the woman partner, a safe working environment is very important to everyone, and I've been working with Ovomas for 30 years, but all of this is over all of a sudden, and it's a heavy blow for Ajax.

Ovomas, nicknamed Peter Pan during his playing days, won the UEFA Champions League for Ajax, then moved to Arsenal and Barcelona where he had some glorious moments, and also played for the Dutch national team in the World Cup and UEFA Champions League twice. After he hung up his boots, he took up a senior position at Ajax, and pushed the team back to the first tier of the European game.
