The AFL Cup final was played on Saturday (5), with Melbourne Success and Mid Coast Mariners competing for the title. After a scoreless first half, Melbourne defeated their rivals by 2-1 with a penalty kick scored by Jackson Davidson and a penalty kick by Igloo Medics to seal the AFC Cup title for the second time and confirm the qualification for the AFC Cup play-offs.
The Central Coast Mariners, who were playing in their first final of the tournament, were inexperienced and were confined to the back of the field for most of the game. In the first half, Success was able to hold on to the wave after wave of attacks by Success. In the second half, Success finally broke through the gap, and in the 70th minute, Dawson Jackson's penalty kick from the top of the penalty area broke through the net, helping Success to take the lead. The Mariners were behind and tried to counterattack, but the result was mediocre, and they were even controlled by Igor Lométis, who received a long pass and shot a whole lot of goals. The Mariners broke the egg in extra time with a goal from Paul Sally, but it was too late. In the end, the team defeated the Mariners 2-1 and won the AFC Cup again after 2015.
