Park Sung, 35, first came to prominence in the youth system of FC Yanbian, and by the age of 19, he had already become a starter for the Yanbian team, and was selected for the national youth team and the national Olympic team at various age groups.
Park Sung joined Beijing Guoan at the start of the 2011 season. He performed well in these 13 seasons with Guoan until the end of last year when his contract with the club expired before announcing his retirement.
Due to well-known reasons, the Guoan element in the Zhonghe team is now very rare. Apart from Housen and Zhang Xizhe, Park Cheng is another veteran who has played for Guoan for more than 10 seasons. Although he did not come from Guoan's youth training system, he is still fully recognized by Beijing fans.
Park Sung, who has made a name for himself at a young age, is so talented that he was once named "Park Jo". He has been valued by all the managers of Guoan, and during Pacheco's tenure, Park has become the center of the midfield of Guoan.
Schmidt, the German coach who has coached Guoan for two seasons, spoke highly of Park's skills and abilities and unreservedly expressed his fondness for him: "I like him very much, he is a player who can make people's eyes light up, and compared to Zhang Xizhe, I think he has more talent." Bilic, another former coach of Guoan, considered Park Cheng as "the best player in China".
Although Park Sung has been recognized by several Guoan managers, he has not made many appearances in Guoan. In the past 13 seasons, he only played less than 300 games, even less than some young players. This is mainly due to the fact that he is frequently plagued by injuries, and over the years, Park Sung has not completed a full season at Guoan.
Constant injury woes led Park Sung to make the decision to retire at the age of 34. He officially announced his retirement late last year after his contract with the club expired.
In his 13 seasons with Guoan, Park Sung has played 276 games, contributing 18 goals and 23 assists. He also helped the team win the FA Cup in the 2018 season. However, these numbers do not fully reflect Park Sung's true contribution to Guoan.
Shao has seen Park's ability and footballing intelligence and has decided to invite him to join his coaching team so that he can pass on his skills and experience to midfielders like Zhang Xiuwei and Duan Liuyu, who have the ability to organize. Although Park's joining Qingdao West Coast has not yet been confirmed, we still wish him the best of luck in his return to the Chinese Super League as a coach and the start of a new professional soccer career. ......
