Manchester United star Roy Keane has paid tribute to retired Manchester City legend David Silva in a recent interview. Keane said he was glad he didn't have to go head-to-head with the talented Spanish midfielder during his career, as he knew he could have been "played by Silva" on the field.
Since joining Manchester City in the summer of 2010, David Silva has become an indispensable core member of the team, leaving a deep mark on the Premier League with his superb technique, excellent vision and outstanding passing ability. During his ten years at Manchester City, he has not only helped the team win several Premier League titles and other important honors, but also won the love and respect of countless fans with his unique soccer intelligence and personal charisma.
In an interview, Keane, recalling the top players in the Premier League over the last 10 to 20 years, compared David Silva to legends such as Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Steven Gerrard and Ryan Giggs, arguing that Silva is well qualified to stand alongside them. Keane said, "Silva is a genius and his footballing talent is breathtaking. Whenever I look back at the top players in the Premier League over the last ten years, I think of him. I'm really glad I didn't have to play him directly on the field because I know it would have been a tough battle."
Additionally, Keane expressed regret over the scenes when David Silva left Manchester City. He mentioned that due to the epidemic and other reasons, Silva's farewell did not turn out to be as grand and enthusiastic as fans had hoped. "It's a real shame to recall today the scenes when he left and the stadium was empty." Keane said, "But I know the City fans must have wanted to give him a better send-off. I'm sure at some point in the future he will be back at City again to receive the tribute and appreciation he deserves."
