In an exclusive interview with Ladbrokes, former Liverpool star John Barnes spoke highly of the young midfielder in his squad, Sobosloe, saying that not only has he earned his place at Liverpool, but he has shown all-round ability and great potential.
Barnes began by emphasizing that Sobosloe was not forced to join Liverpool, but rather stood out in the team on his own merit. "He's the closest thing to Steven Gerrard I've ever seen," Barnes exclaimed, "Sobosloe has excellent passing range, dribbling skills, tracking ability and shanking technique, and he's able to run up and down the pitch like an old-school midfielder without losing the quick game and counter-attacking ability."
Barnes further noted that what makes Sobosloe unique is his ability to juggle multiple roles. "He can organize the attack like De Bruyne or contribute on the defensive end like Rodri," Barnes said, "This versatility makes him a perfect fit for Klopp's tactical system and makes him an integral part of Liverpool."
In addition, Barnes spoke about Liverpool's options in the number six position. He acknowledged that this is a position that Klopp wants to address, and mentioned potential targets for reinforcements such as Hang Endo and Subi Mendy. But Barnes also pointed out that there are already a number of players in the squad who are capable of playing in the number six position and performing well under Sloter's tactical system. "Sobosloy, Hrafenbech and Curtis Jones are all great options," Barnes said, "and they all have the ability to play a big role in that position."
