Anthony Modeste is unavailable in Europe after his contract with Borussia Dortmund expired. The Chinese Super League veteran has decided to continue his career by playing in Africa - according to Cairo National officials, Modeste, 35, has signed a one-year contract with the team, with a one-year extension option.

Last season, Allé suffered from testicular cancer. As a replacement for the Ivorian, Modeste helped Borussia Dortmund from Cologne on the firing line. In the season before joining the "Hornets", Modeste scored 23 goals in various matches and was recognized as an efficient scorer in the Bundesliga. But after arriving at Dortmund, the French striker did nothing, scoring only two goals in the whole season.

In the eyes of many, Modeste made a mistake by joining Dortmund, but he doesn't accept it himself : "I can certainly understand that everyone thinks like that, because my numbers at Dortmund are very different from what they used to be. But for me it was definitely not a mistake. It was a big challenge. I finally reached the Champions League. In the race for the league title, we were fighting until the last round. Please, can you still call that a mistake?"

It's clear that Modeste has no regrets about joining Borussia Dortmund, even if he paid a price for it. Last week, Modeste and his agent Dino Lamberti held talks with Egyptian giants Cairo National. After an agreement was reached, Modeste first completed part of his medical in Germany (last Saturday) and then traveled to Switzerland to complete the remainder of his medical program (last Sunday).

On Monday, Modeste flew to Egypt with his agent Dino Lamberti. He then met executive CEO Amir Tawfik and head coach Marcel Koller. Later that night, Cairo National made the announcement of Modeste's signing.

According to Egyptian media, Modeste's annual salary is $1.6 million after taxes and a $250,000 autograph fee. Cairo National will add $300,000 to his bonus if he performs well in the Club World Cup and African Champions League. At his new club, Modeste will wear the No. 10 jersey.

On Tuesday night, Modeste will take part in training for the first time and then he will travel with the team to Saudi Alge (Algeria) for the African Super Cup. If all goes well, Modeste will soon be celebrating his first trophy with Cairo National.
