Dortmund hosted the visiting Heidenheim in the 3rd round of the German top flight soccer match. With Adeyemi's second goal and goals from Mallon and Emre Zhan, Dortmund finally won 4-2 and gained three valuable points.

Dortmund got into the game quickly and took the lead in the 11th minute. Adeyemi cut inside on the left and crossed the ball to Mallon, who fired a right-footed shot from the front of the box to open the scoring for Dortmund. Dortmund then continued to intensify their attack and extended their lead in the 17th minute. Brandt delivered a precise assist and Adeyemi pushed a shot from the left side of the box to make it 2-0.

However, Heidenheim did not give up on the game. They pulled one back in the 40th minute with a header from Pailinger to reduce the deficit to 1-2, but Dortmund soon doubled their lead again when Girassi missed a shot from the front post in the 41st minute and Adeyemi pushed it home to complete the double and end the first half with a 3-1 lead for Dortmund.

The second half began with both teams continuing to battle it out. In the 74th minute, Kaufmann fell down in the penalty area, and the referee awarded a penalty kick, which Broinich took to equalize the game for Heidenheim. However, Dortmund did not let this affect them as they continued to keep control of the game.

In extra time, Traore was fouled by a handball in the penalty area and the referee awarded another penalty kick. Emre Zhan took the penalty to make it 4-2, and Dortmund ended the game with a win at home, continuing their momentum in the league.
