The purpose of this column is to popularize refereeing knowledge for fans, so that fans and friends can better understand everyone's favorite soccer. It is not aimed at Chinese soccer referees. However, recently, some people have published articles on many self media and related networks that are totally inconsistent with the facts. They took out of context and criticized referees directly by name.
I declare the following: I have not made any comments about the referee to any media or self media other than Tianjin TV.
--Wang Xuezhi, Senior International Referee
In the past 17th round of the Chinese Super League, many controversial penalties were related to the intervention of VAR. Let's go to the Intelligent Assessment of Referees section. Please ask Senior International Referee Mr. Wang Xuezhi to comment on the relevant penalties with specific cases.
|Nantong Zhiyun vs Shandong Taishan Controversial Penalty:In the 11th minute Tong Zhiyun backfield long pass, Taishan defender Jadson pulled Nantong Zhiyun forward Gui Hong. Referee Li Haixin first showed a yellow card to Jadson. Then, prompted by VAR, the referee ruled that Jia Desmond had destroyed a clear scoring chance for his opponent and awarded a red card instead, directly penalizing Jia Desmond.
Wang Xuezhi:The referee identifies obvious scoring opportunities based on: "the distance between the place where the foul occurred and the goal, the general direction in which the game is developing, the likelihood of controlling the ball or gaining possession of the ball, and the position and number of defending players". The attackers have not yet controlled the ball, but their position has taken precedence. The likelihood of gaining possession is fundamentally different from the likelihood of a clear scoring opportunity. The former can only be a promising scoring opportunity and cannot be regarded as "destroying a clear scoring opportunity". The referee's initial decision was therefore correct and in keeping with the spirit of the rules, and the decision to issue a yellow card should be upheld with confidence.
|Cangzhou Lions vs Chengdu RongchengDisputed Penalty:In the 84th minute, Chengdu Rongcheng launched a fast attack, Yang Yun pushed down the forward Felipe. Referee Zhang Lei showed Yang Yun a yellow card and Yang Yun was penalized with two yellow cards and a red card. Later, VAR also prompted Yang Yun to suspect that he had spoiled a clear scoring chance, but Zhang Lei turned around and slowly slowed down his pace before firming up his call.
Wang Xuezhi:As in the above case, the attackers had the potential to gain possession, but they were surrounded by four defenders chasing them, which was also considered a promising scoring opportunity. The referee's initial decision was the right one, and the decision to turn two yellows into one red was just right whether or not the VAR's cue was denied.
|Beijing Guoan vs Wuhan SanzhenControversial Penalty:In the 27th minute, Davidson was shoved down behind Yu Dabao. Referee Shen Yinhao showed Yu Dabao a yellow card. Afterwards, an argument broke out between members of the two teams. Beijing Guoan foreigner De Souza grabbed He Chao from behind him and dragged him down by the neck. The referee didn't say anything about the incident.
Wang Xuezhi:During a fast run, the referee missed a serious foul by Beijing Guoan in a static observation state due to overlapping lines of sight. This is a foul that clearly constitutes a red card.VAR cannot sit idly by. During the clash, another player of Guoan pulling the opponent should also be shown a yellow card. The assistant referee should have assisted in a timely manner.
Disputed Penalty:In the first half of extra time, Beijing Guoan grabbed the ball and committed a foul. When He Chao took the penalty for a set piece at the back post, Beijing Guoan's foreign aid Ademi walked close to the ball and prevented He Chao from kicking it off. After that, He Chao kicked the ball directly to Ademi and the referee showed a yellow card to He Chao.
Wang Xuezhi:When the opponent took the free kick, the defending player intentionally did not withdraw from the 9.15 meter delay, which already constitutes a foul for showing a yellow card. The referee should have shown a yellow card to Ademi first and then to He Chao who took the penalty.
|Shanghai Shenhua vs Meizhou Hakka Controversial Penalty:In the 30th minute, Liao Junjian put down Malelai with a hidden move inside the penalty area after Shenhua's cross from the side, but referee Huang Yi didn't penalize him in any way.
Wang Xuezhi:Shanghai Shenhua's player jumped up for the top spot and was pushed down by the defending player at that moment. It was a hidden foul that affected the points scored and lost. The referee didn't notice it and the VAR turned a blind eye. The case in the previous round where a Hong Kong player jumped up for the ball and was violated by the defender was basically the same as this action. The difference is that the referee kept the penalty kick awarded under the interference of VAR.
Controversial Penalty:In the 62nd minute, Shenhua attacked and players from both teams slid on the ground to grab the ball. After that, Shenhua player Yang Zexiang quickly got up and helped his teammates to score with a cross from the side road. The VAR indicated that Yang Zexiang was suspected to have committed a foul in the process of grabbing the ball, but the referee finally decided that the goal was valid.
Wang Xuezhi:
This is a case where neither side is fouling in normal competition. Both are aiming to run the ball. Although both fell to the ground, it did not affect the attacker's ability to control the ball to complete the eventual goal. In this call, the referee accurately recognized the action and did not add to the game. This is a rare classic case in this year's Super League. Referees like this need to have exciting and fluid games.
From the analysis of the referee's enforcement in this round, it appears that the gap in the style of enforcement is actually a gap in basic skills; the gap in the scale of punishment is actually a gap in recognizing the action; the gap in the distance of punishment is actually a gap in the usual training; and while on the surface the punishments are similar, the inner realm is actually quite different.
