The Chinese Super League is nearing its break as the June FIFA match days approach, when not only the Chinese men's national team will be taking part in preparatory activities, but also a number of foreign aiders will be returning to the country to compete. Recently, some Romanian media disclosed that the Romanian national team had tried to call up Wuhan Sanzhen's Romanian international Stanciu in advance, but this obviously unreasonable request was eventually strongly rejected by Wuhan Sanzhen.
The Romanian national team will play an international match on June 16, according to Romanian media outlet Arena. They wanted Stanciu, as the core of the team, to return to Romania early to adjust to the time difference. So, they offered Wuhan Sanzhen to ask Stanciu to return to Romania before June 10 so that he could spend six days on jet lag.
However, the Romanian national team's request was simply rejected by the three Wuhan towns. This is because the schedule shows that Wuhan's three towns will be playing Shandong Taishan on the evening of June 9 in the highlight duel of the Chinese Super League. If Stanciu left the team early as requested by the Romanian national team, the player would essentially not be able to play in this crucial match. Obviously, this Romanian request is very unreasonable. Therefore, the three towns in Wuhan replied that Stanciu could only leave the team on June 10, after the match against Shandong Taishan, which directly dismissed the Romanian national team's request.
While FIFA has rules requiring clubs not to deny their national teams the ability to recruit players for international matches without cause, it also retains a certain degree of autonomy for clubs. In the case of the Stancho incident, for example, a request to return home early for a match would inevitably have an impact on the ongoing Chinese Super League fixtures. Not only is such a request unreasonable, it is also unlikely to be supported by FIFA. Therefore, it is not surprising that Wuhan Sanzhen refused to accept such a request. Considering that not all teams in international soccer can call up players at will like the Chinese national team, there are basic rules that need to be followed.
