According to a new report from Spanish sports media outlet As, English Premier League giants Liverpool FC are showing strong interest in Sevilla's defensive stalwart David Bardy. The move is seen as an important step in Liverpool's search for a successor to current captain van Dijk, as the 33-year-old Dutch international defender has begun to show signs of a decline in his competitive form as he ages.

Bardet, a key figure in Sevilla's defense, has just recently completed a contract extension with the club that will run until 2029, showing his strong commitment to the team's future. At the same time, his contract also contains a release clause of up to €60 million, which undoubtedly sets the bar high for any potential buyer.

Despite the fact that clubs such as Roma and Stuttgart have already made offers for Bardet during the summer transfer window, with the highest reaching 20 million euros, Bardet himself is not interested in these invitations, and has repeatedly stated that he is happy at Sevilla and has a deep sense of affection and belonging to the team.

In terms of on-field performance, Bardet has been the lynchpin of Sevilla's backline in the past seasons. In the 2023/24 season, he made 33 appearances for the team in all competitions, and although he failed to score, he contributed a key assist to help solidify the defense. And going into this season, despite a reduced number of appearances, he is still widely recognized for his consistency on the field and defensive ability.
