In the second round of the Chinese Super League (CSL), Shanghai Seaport, who beat the defending champions in their last away game, had their first home game of the new season and their first CSL game at the SAIC Pudong Football Stadium. The match was against Shenzhen. Shanghai Seaport prioritized their way into the next city by adding a first half goal by center back Jiang Guangtai. However, shortly after the start of the second half, the situation on the pitch suddenly changed and Jiang Guangtai was sent off for a tactical foul.
After that, although Shanghai Harbour's foreign center forward extended the lead to 2-2, Shenzhen, playing with an extra man, equalized in the 84th minute and even had a chance to turn the game around. That's when 31-year-old striker Wu Lei stepped up and steadily scored a solo goal after a long 80-meter drive to help his team earn their second win of the new season, as well as the start of the SAIC Pudong Football Stadium.
Born in November 1991 in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, Wu Lei is a 1.74-meter tall striker on the pitch. He comes from Shanghai Genbao Football School. At the age of 14, he made his first professional appearance in China's second division and worked his way up to the AFC Champions League stage with the team. According to statistics, Wu Lei has scored 182 goals in his career for Shanghai Harbour and is the best goal scorer in the team's history. In 2018, he also helped the team win the Chinese Super League (CSL) title and was crowned the top scorer in the CSL.
In January 2019, Wu Lei landed in La Liga as the best player in the Chinese Super League. During his time abroad, he made 126 appearances for the Spaniards in various matches, contributing 16 goals and dishing out six assists. He also broke through the goal of Barcelona, one of the world's top giants. After returning to the Chinese Super League in the middle of last season, Wu Lei showed the strength of a super class, scoring 11 goals in just 12 games.
In the new season, Wu Lei still maintains a high level of performance. In the first two rounds of the tournament, he contributed 1 goal and 2 assists and is in good physical condition. At the end of the game, he can still score goals all the way, which is a good thing for the national soccer team. Currently Wu Lei has 27 goals for the national team, only 2 goals away from the first place, and is very hopeful to be on the all-time top scorer list of the national soccer team this year.
