Why is Chinese soccer not working? I believe that many fans will answer this question by thinking that Chinese soccer is too short of soccer talents. It is true that at present, we do lack powerful players, especially those who are effective in the top five leagues in Europe. But the fact is that Japan and South Korea can have so many players working in Europe and even becoming top stars in Europe. As an East Asian race, we can definitely do it.
But why don't we have it now? Aside from the fact that we didn't follow the normal path of developing soccer, we really lacked some luck. Why? Over the years, our Chinese soccer has produced several soccer geniuses. For example, Dong Fangzhuo, who joined Manchester United at a young age, used to be considered as the future of the Chinese soccer frontier because he was loaned out by Manchester United to Belgium to get the Golden Boot of Belgium B. He then returned to Manchester United and played in the English Premier League. He later returned to Manchester United and became the first Chinese to play in the English Premier League and made a successful appearance in the Champions League.
However, later, in order to compete in the Olympics, he played a closed game, delaying treatment and causing his injury to worsen. Although he scored in the Olympics, Dong's career has been on a downward spiral ever since, with serious injuries making him not what he used to be. After his Manchester United career, he could not find his once spirited self in the Chinese Super League, Europe or the Chinese League.
As a matter of fact, we have more than one talented player who has the same experience as Dong Fangzhuo. A typical example is Wang Chu, who is known as China's Xiao Bei. At that time, Wang Chu set a world record for turning the ball upside down. He turned over 5207 balls in 40 minutes, which made him famous at once. Later, Wang Chu soon started studying abroad. He joined Metz in the French Ligue 1, where Wang Chu also showed great talent. In 2005, Wang Chu won the French Championship in the U-14 age group on behalf of Metz Football Club and won the Silver Ball in the Best Player of the U-14 age group. In May, Wang Chu took part in the Metz tournament.
It can be said that both Wang Chu and Wu Lei were born in 1991, but at that time Wang Chu was more famous and considered as a talented player. But unfortunately, Wang Chu, like Dong Fangzhuo, ruined his future because of injuries. When Mace got injured, he was called back to play in the National Games. As a result, he suffered a serious injury in the warm-up match and was directly scrapped. It was because of this serious injury that Mace was released from his contract.
Later in his career, Wang Chu largely spent his time recovering from injuries. While he once shone in the Luxembourg league, he scored two goals in the UEFA Cup preliminaries, becoming the first Chinese player to do so since the UEFA Cup was reorganized. However, recurring injuries prevented him from really getting his feet wet in Europe. So for the 2018 season, he was scouted back to the Chinese Super League by the Beijing Renhe team, but as a midfielder, he'll have a hard time competing for foreign aid in the Chinese Super League. Also, Wang Chu is not a very good at mixing circles. His life is sleeping and playing matches. So in the end, he didn't get to play many games against the Beijingers. However, he won his second center trophy in the FA Cup.
After failing to play for the Beijingers, Wang Chu returned to his hometown. He joined Sichuan Jiuniu's hometown team and played Chinese B with the team. As you can see, Wang Chu's goal was simple: to play in the center of the field. And soon Wang Chu became the center of Sichuan Jiuniu's midfield and field captain. And Wang Chu soon led the team to promote to the Central League, and also successfully relegated in these two seasons. Last season, Wang Chu showed excellent form, starting 17 out of 27 games for the team and scoring 4 goals.
It is also because of his outstanding performance in Jiu Niu that Wang Chu has the chance to return to the Chinese Super League this season. He has been favored by another Chinese Super League team in Sichuan and Chengdu Rongcheng, who recently confirmed that Wang Chu has joined Chengdu Rongcheng on a free transfer. After four years, he is back in the Chinese Super League. China Bei is now 32 years old, but now he is more mature and stable. Choosing this time to return to the Chinese Super League also shows that Wang Chu has not given up on himself and he wants to show a better version of himself on a higher field.
What are your expectations for Wang Chu's journey to the Chinese Super League? Do you think he can still be one of the best midfielders in China? Welcome to discuss with your friends in the comment section!
