On April 8, the 2023 Chinese Football Association Super Cup was held at Hangzhou Huanglong Sports Center. It was the Super Cup that was restarted after three years. Finally, in the presence of 26,998 fans, Super League champions Wuhan Sanzhen defeated Shandong Taishan 2-0 to win the Super Cup, becoming the tenth team in history.
Last season's Chinese Super League (CSL) champions Wuhan Sanzhen took on last season's F.A.C. Cup champions Shandong Taishan in a CFA Super Cup match, as well as last season's league title conversation.
Both teams have made signings and upgrades in the transfer market for the new season, with their respective weak links targeted for strengthening. There are eight former Guangzhou players on Wuhan Three Town's roster, including Liu Dianzha, Gao Junyi, Wei Shihao, Liu Yiming, He Chao, Deng Hanwen, Li Yang and Yan Dinghao.
Despite the departure of center Malcolm Malcolm, who won the league's Golden Boot last season, Wuhan Sanzhen's athleticism and bonding were significantly higher than that of their opponents, and they overwhelmed Shandong throughout the match.
In the 10th minute, Wuhan Town staged a good show with a new recruit breaking through the goal: Wei Shihao finished a breakthrough on the left side facing a four-player defense and passed to Yakubu, who broke the goal with a header. In the 56th minute, Wuhan midfielder Stanciu sent a scalpel-type pass, and Xie Pengfei shot a low shot to seal the win.
In the 84th minute, Shandong Taishan took advantage of goalkeeper Liu Dianzha's error in the ball, Liu Binbin scored a goal, but Sun Guowen was offside first for his pass. Shandong could not get back into the game after South Korean foreigner Sun Junho was red-carded in the 88th minute for a flying tackle on Wuhan striker Davidson.
