The 35-year-old Marcelo Moreno, the greatest player in Bolivian soccer history (the first striker in the team's history), left his mark in faraway China. In February 2015, Moreno joined Changchun Yatai (registered name: Morello) for a transfer fee of €2.5 million. In the next two seasons, the Bolivian shot-stopper scored 9 and 13 goals respectively, making an outstanding contribution to Yatai's relegation.

At the beginning of 2017, Changchun Yatai invested heavily in bringing in Ighalo from English Premier League Watford, while Moreno, whose contract expired, joined Wuhan Zall, still in China's First Division, on a free. Under the command of two coaches, Ferreira and Tang Yaodong, he won the Golden Boot of the 2017 season with 23 goals, realizing a descent into the Chinese First Division.
Since then, Wuhan Zall hired Li Tie as the team's coach, and Moreno's good days were completely over - through his connections in Japan, Li Tie signed two foreigners, Rafael Silva and Pedro Júnior, instead of "his" Moreno in the Li Tie was sacked in the second half of the 2018 season.
Marcelo Moreno moved to Shijiazhuang Yongchang (formerly Cangzhou Lions) on a free transfer in 2019 and was promoted with the team, but soon terminated his contract with Yongchang early citing "family reasons".
Since leaving China, Moreno has played for Cruzeiro and Porteno Hills, and his derby price has dropped all the way down to 300,000 euros. Considering his special relationship with Gustavo Quinteros (who worked with Moreno in the Bolivian national team), many media outlets speculated that he would join Colo Colo.
Back in his playing days at Portnoy Hills, Moreno really showed interest in joining Colo Colo : "If Portnoy Hills doesn't renew my contract, I'll leave the door open and talk to them. If Colo Colo and Quinteros are both interested in me, I'll sit down and talk to them."
Moreno turned down an offer from Colo Colo and joined Independiente Valley instead. The Bolivian striker will play again in the Copa Libertadores in the new season, where he will lead his team in the group stage against Corinthians, Argentine Youth and Liverpool (Uruguay).
