On the afternoon of December 27, Wuhan Changjiang was reversed 1-2 away from Chengdu Rongcheng in the penultimate round of the Chinese Super League (CSL), the 33rd round, locking the league's bottom three players into the CSL A in an early round.
Wuhan is a major town in Chinese soccer and one of the founding teams of the Chinese professional league. In 1994, WISCO's first and second teams played in both the First and Second Divisions. Wuhan Tianlong Huanghelou finished fifth in the 2005 Chinese Super League, but Wuhan Nanyi Guanggu withdrew after 18 rounds of the 2008 Chinese Super League, leaving Wuhan, and even the whole of Hubei, without a Chinese Super League or First Division team.
In order to continue the flame of local soccer, the Hubei Football Association decided to use the original Wuhan Football Spark U-in-19 team (i.e. Hubei Eleven Luck Team) to establish a new soccer club. on February 17, 2009, Wuhan Yangtze River Club's predecessor, Hubei Green Football Club was established, and Hubei Green succeeded in winning the runner-up of the Chinese B Grade.
On December 14, 2011, Zall Group took ownership of Wuhan Football, and the team immediately finished second in the 2012 China First Division League. But just one season later, Zall returned to the China First Division. After five seasons, Zall won the 2018 China First Division title and the Super League. In 2019, Zall finished sixth in the Chinese Super League. In 2020, Zall defeated Greentown 3-2 in a relegation playoff.
On February 15, 2021, "Wuhan Zall Professional Football Club" CFA professional league at all levels to implement the club name non-enterprise change, the club name changed to "Wuhan Football Club". Last season, Wuhan ranked third from the bottom of the Chinese Super League and narrowly escaped relegation. On February 16 this year, "Wuhan Football Club" changed its name to "Wuhan Changjiang Football Club".
Wuhan Changjiang has encountered great difficulties in its operation this season, in fact, his performance in the league is commendable. In the first three rounds of the league, Wuhan Changjiang was the only team to win three matches and had finished first in the table. Even after being deducted three points by the Chinese Football Association on Nov. 5, Wuhan Changjiang was in the safe zone of the bottom four. But on Nov. 23, a second penalty from the Chinese Football Association reduced Wuhan Changjiang by six points again, and the team fell into the relegation zone for the first time this season-second from bottom after 26 rounds.
Even with 9 points deducted, Wuhan Changjiang briefly broke out of the relegation zone after 28.29 rounds and ranked fourth from the bottom. But it only lasted two rounds, and after 30 rounds, Wuhan Changjiang was back in the relegation zone. with 8 wins, 4 draws and 21 losses, the original Wuhan Changjiang could have reached 28 points and could have been declared relegated early. However, after being deducted 9 points by the CFA, Wuhan Changjiang couldn't return to the days of early relegation with one round left in the league.
Wuhan Changjiang was penalized points by the CFA for failing to enforce the repayment of salary arrears as required. Based on the current situation, even if Wuhan Changjiang is relegated from the results, with a debt of 400 million dollars, it will be difficult for them to pass the CFA's access to the Chinese Super League next year, or even the professional league, as the Zall Group is no longer going to blood the club. Wuhan's two teams are on double ice and fire as Sanzhen is sprinting for the Super League title while Changjiang was relegated a round earlier. Yangtze's relegation is hardly a repeat of their 2013 relegation to play again in the Chinese League.
