Varane retired at 31.

According to newsmen, the decision has been made for 31-year-old French center back Varane to retire, who is suffering from a knee injury.

Starting his soccer career at the age of 7, he made his debut at a training center in France and grew rapidly thereafter.

Varane initially began his rise to fame at Lens, making his Ligue 1 debut at the age of 17 and scoring in the 2010/11 season.

Varane's performances caught Mourinho's attention, and in June 2011 he signed a six-year contract with the youngster for a transfer fee of 10 million euros. He was given the number 19 shirt when he joined the club, and in his first match, a friendly with the LA Galaxy, he scored his first goal in a La Liga match at home against Valencia, making him the youngest foreigner in Real Madrid's history (at the age of 18 years and 152 days) to score a goal.

On July 26, 2021, Manchester United and Real Madrid agreed to sign Varane for a £34 million transfer fee plus a mobility clause. Varane will reportedly sign a 4-year deal with United until 2025, plus a 1-year automatic renewal clause.

On July 28, 2024, when his contract expired, Varane left United for Como, who had just been promoted to Serie A from Serie B.

On August 11, 2024, he injured his knee in his first match for Como, the Coppa Italia against Sampdoria in Serie B. The injury was so severe that Como wrote off his eligibility to play.

On September 25, 2024, due to ongoing injuries, both large and small, Varane announced his retirement, officially ending his professional soccer career.
