Recently, former England representative team legendary goalkeeper David James expressed his views on the expectations and current performance of Manchester United's new signing Onana in a public forum. James bluntly stated that he was a little disappointed with Onana's initial performance at United, as he had high hopes for the goalkeeper, who moved from Inter Milan, to bring a disruptive change to United's style of play.
"When United announced the signing of Onana, I was full of expectations that he would be the catalyst for change in the team." James said, "I had expected him to revolutionize the way United play with his excellent footwork and accurate long passing ability. However, unfortunately, so far we have not seen Onana show his best form at United."
James further pointed out that United are in dire need of a goalkeeper who can control the ball at the back and link up the offense through accurate long passes, which is exactly what Onana showed at Inter Milan. However, after joining United, it seems that Onana has not been able to quickly adapt to the new environment and turn this advantage into actual performance on the field.
"As things stand, Onana may not be in the top six goalkeepers in the Premier League." James confessed, "But I always believe that he has the potential and ability to do so. I hope that in the coming matches, Onana can gradually find his form and show his real strength to build an impenetrable defense for the Manchester United goal."
Finally, James also expressed his good wishes and expectations for Onana's future. "I believe that as long as Onana can keep a positive mindset and train hard, he will be able to achieve greater success at Manchester United." James said, "I look forward to seeing him continue to improve and become an integral part of Manchester United."
