Who is the head coach of the Italian national team

The current head coach of the Italian men's national soccer team is Luciano Spalletti.

Born in 1959 in Florence, Italy, Spalletti made his debut in his hometown club as a midfielder. In 1985, he joined Empoli, then a Serie C club, where he served as captain.

Spalletti started his coaching career at Empoli. First as a player, then as a youth coach, and then as a full-time manager in 1995. During that time, he led Empoli from Serie C to Serie A. After that, he moved on to coach Sampdoria. He then moved on to coach Sampdoria, Venice and Udinese. During his time at Udinese, Spalletti led the club to the Champions League.

He took over the reins of Roma in 2005. It was a chaotic time for Roma, with four coaches having been appointed, but all of them ended up going down. In order to revitalize the team, Spalletti changed his tactics and adopted an attacking style of play without a striker. As a result, Roma finally recovered and finished the 2005-06 season in fifth place.

During Spalletti's tenure at Roma, Serie A was largely monopolized by Inter Milan, but Spalletti did deliver: winning the Coppa Italia in the 2006-07 season, and back-to-back successes the following season. In the league, Roma often finished as runners-up and qualified for the Champions League.

In December 2009 Spalletti joined Russian club Zenit on a three-year deal. In his first season at the helm, he led Zenit to win the league and cup double; in his second season, he led the team to win the Super Cup and defend the Russian Premier League title. In his third season, Zenit spent a lot of money on Hulk and Witsel, hoping to make a big impact in the Champions League, but the team was outclassed by CSKA Moscow and finished second in the league. In the Champions League that season, the team was defeated by Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund in the first round of the knockout stage, and on March 11, 2014, Zenit announced the early termination of his contract with Spalletti, who did not coach any other clubs after that. He coached Roma again until January 2016, when he left to coach Inter Milan in the 2016/2017 season.

Spalletti returned to Serie A in May 2021 as Napoli manager after a two-year stay.
