Atlético de Madrid is the Spanish national. Located in the capital city of Madrid, Atlético de Madrid was founded on April 6, 1903, and the team was born from a branch club of Athletic Bilbao. The team's initial jersey design was red and white with black and white pants, and on May 2 of the same year they played their first match in the team's history. The title of Bedlam started in 1911, when Atletico started to wear a new design of jerseys with red and white vertical stripes on top and dark blue pants on the bottom. The most popular bedspread design in the region where the club was located at the time was red and white.
After that, the club grew and won the Regional League in 1921, the first trophy in Atletico's history. In the same year, they became independent from Biba and became a self-financing club. At the league level, Atletico received an invitation to play in the official La Liga the following year in 1928, but after two seasons the team was relegated to the Liga B. In 1934 they briefly returned to the first division, before being relegated again two years later.
However, when the civil war broke out in La Liga, the relegation of Atletico Madrid was postponed and the team managed to stay in La Liga after winning the play-offs against the champions of the second division.At the end of the Spanish Civil War in 1939, the team was combined with the Air Force parachute team and its name was changed to Aerospace Athletic Team. The team won its first ever trophy in the 1939-1940 season, and again the following year, when it decided to change its name to Atlético de Madrid in 1947, a name it has not changed since. In its more than two hundred years of existence, Atletico Madrid has won eleven league titles domestically, three UEFA and UEFA Premier League Cups, and one Intercontinental Cup on the international stage.
