Solskjaer began his professional playing career with a Norwegian domestic club before Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson bought him in the summer of 1996 for £1.5 million. He became the team's leading scorer with 19 goals in the 1996/97 season, and also helped the team win the league title that season.
