Makoto Hasebe is a famous Japanese soccer player and former captain of the Japan national soccer team. He currently plays for Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt as a defensive midfielder, right back and center back.
In January 2002, Makoto Hasebe decided to become a professional soccer player after giving up the opportunity to enter college after graduating from high school. He was hoping to join Shimizu Heartbeat in Shizuoka Prefecture, but failed in the selection process and joined Urawa Red Diamonds in Saitama Prefecture instead.In the 2004 season, Hasebe was runner-up in the Nippon Professional League with Urawa Red Diamonds, and Hasebe won the Nippon Professional League Rookie of the Year Award, and was named to the Nippon Professional League Best XI.He was runner-up in the Nippon Professional League and Emperor's Cup Champion in the 2005 season, and won the Nippon Professional League Champion, Emperor's Cup Champion, and Japan Super Cup Champion in the 2006 season with Urawa Red Diamonds. On January 18, 2008, Makoto Hasebe signed a contract with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, with whom he won the Bundesliga title in the 2008-09 season, making him the second Japanese player to win the Bundesliga title after his predecessor, Yasuhiko Okuji.
On September 1, 2013, Martin Bader, the sports manager of Bundesliga side Nürnberg, announced that he had reached an agreement with Wolfsburg for Makoto Hasebe to move to Nürnberg, signing a three-year contract for a transfer fee of approximately €2.5 million.
