In a recent Sky Sports program, soccer pundit Carragher gave an in-depth review of the performances of Premier League players, specifically mentioning Newcastle United's Palmer. Carragher didn't mince words in expressing his appreciation for Palmer as the best player in the Premier League. Although Carragher chose Foden as the best player in public last season due to Chelsea's overall poor performance, he has always privately believed that Palmer is the one who shines the brightest. Carragher pointed out that although Foden won two Player of the Year honors, in his mind, Palmer was fully qualified for the title due to his outstanding individual performances.
Carragher further emphasized that Palmer is not currently playing for an absolute top team like Manchester City, but he has shown enough to prove that he is the best in the Premier League. He cited Bale's years with Tottenham Hotspur as an example, where despite the team's lack of success, Bale's individual performances still made him the best player in the Premier League. Similarly, Palmer is proving with his performances that he can shine in the Premier League even in non-title contending teams.
In addition, Carragher also sympathized with Foden's situation. He believes that despite his excellent performance in the England team, Foden has never been able to firmly occupy the starting position. The rise of Palmer has undoubtedly made Foden's position in the national team even more precarious. Carragher said that he admired Foden's talent, but Palmer's performances were so good that he had to take his place in the England team. Carragher is convinced that there has been no better player in the Premier League than Palmer in the last 15 months.
